Healthy living with diabetes


Those affected by diabetes at around 16 million Americans and about 800,000 new cases are diagnosed each year. Diabetes attacks men, women, children and the elderly. Do not save any race.

Diabetes is the leading cause of kidney failure, blindness in adults, and amputations. It is an important risk factor for heart disease, movement, and birth defects and it shortens life expectancy by up to 15 years. So you can see what I am up against. It is for me to make sure that none of these things never happen to my daughter. My daughter Tami has Type 1 diabetes. She will be 10 years from March 15. Tami has been a diabetic for 5 years.

Five years ago all this information totally overwhelms me. I felt helpless and depressed. I was sure this was a sentence to death for my daughter. This was due to my total ignorance of diabetes. A person can live a full life with diabetes. Just take some care. A good diet plays an important part of life for diabetics. Need to develop a food plan with your doctor and dietician. My daughter has several meals a day. She has breakfast, a snack, lunch, a snack, dinner and snack. She has these foods at the same time each day. This is important. Helps keep your body at a time and your blood sugar regulated. Meals and snacks that can jump to the big swings in blood sugar readings. To keep blood sugar levels near normal a Diabetic must balance the food you eat with the insulin the body gets from injections and physical activities. The monitoring of blood sugar gives you the information you need help with this balance. Readings near normal blood sugar helps you feel better. The Normal is between 70 and 120. They will also reduce your chances of complications.
